In Remembrance

You died with such contentment on your face
that it made me marvel at your cruelty.
It seemed that Death gave you a better deal
and you chose to forsake this world you knew.
Wherever you may be, my love, listen!
It is never easy to just forget.
You gave me love I never knew before.
The years may pass, but thoughts of you remain
in the deepest recesses of my heart.
Each night when I am all alone, I keep
wishing you were back in my life again.
Knowing that it is just wishful thinking.
Unless love and courage be on my side…
To grant me strength to leave this world behind.

Alley Cat

Moonlight sharpens, a silent calm descends.
Life on the streets emptied back to the homes.
Into their nests of warmth mankind retreat,
catching some sleep before the crack of dawn.
Jumping from bin to bin, rummaging through
for food morsels to ease the hunger pangs.
Purr with delight only when meals are found.
Yet feast no more as wild dogs are abound.
I make a quick leap to the window ledge.
Alas! I miss and fall back to the ground.
A gnaw, nothing more than deep fatal gnaws
that expunges the nine lives out of me.
I lie naked like a new born puppy
with my entrails being feasted upon.
